They got lost in the mountains in Sicily but their rescue signal reaches the 112 PSAP in Saluzzo

In two hours, by sharing the location via GPS, the Fire Brigade and the State Forestry Corp managed to reach them.

Saluzzo – Yesterday a group of hikers found themselves in danger while climbing the Madonie mountains in the Isnello area, in the province of Palermo. One of them, using an iPhone, sent a rescue signal that, via satellite, reached the Apple headquarters in Holland, the message was redirected to the iPhone emergency transmission center in Cuneo, based in Saluzzo.

The 112 PSAP has two offices in Piedmont, one in Grugliasco and one in Saluzzo: in the last few hours, with the same modalities, it received the SOS of a boat in distress in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

iPhones, starting with the 14 series, are equipped with this feature that can send help messages even when there is no signal. The PSAP that receives the alarm from the Apple center is the one in Saluzzo, which alerts the rescue services. Yesterday, by sharing the location via GPS, firefighters and forest guards were able to reach the hikers in two hours, near the Vallone Giumenta refuge. The four were scared but unharmed.
