Safety procedures
In the event of a violent event, sudden illness, trauma, accident (at sea, on board a boat or at the beach), adopt the following safety procedures:
- keep calm;
- get the first aid kit on board ready for use;
- in case of trauma/accident/violent event, do not move the injured person (unless he/she may be in danger where he/she is);
- in case of sudden illness, check whether the person is breathing and conscious;
- if you are a bather (or at the beach), call the lifeguard;
- call 1 1 2 and contact the Coast Guard by radio (distress frequency VHF channel 16) providing the requested information, including:: position, distance from the coast, type of accident, current weather and sea conditions, dynamics of the event that caused the accident, characteristics of the person rescued (specify whether elderly, woman, or child), whether conscious or not, etc.;
- follow the rescuers’ instructions.
