Security measures
Being the victim of a house burglary can cause severe damage, which can be not only material but also emotional and psychological. It is very important to protect your home, to limit the risks and improve its security.
There are some effective measures that serve this purpose:
- install, for example, a passive security system designed to discourage thieves, such as an intruder alarm or a remote control system;
- make sure you have burglar-resistant windows and doors and, especially for the ground floor, it is a good idea to equip them with shatterproof glass and bars;
- always lock the door;
- light up outdoor areas, terraces and gardens to deter intruders;
- do not leave money, cash or valuables in your house and, if possible, install a safe which represents a big obstacle for thieves.
- ask a relative, a trusted neighbor or a friend to check on your house when you are away;
- do not share information about your personal or family habits on social networks so as not to make your absence from home known.
If you return home and find that the lock has been forced and the house in a mess, call 1 1 2 (the single European emergency number) immediately to report the incident and wait for a police patrol to intervene. Do not contaminate the crime scene.
