Safety procedures
In case of a fire, adopt the following safety procedures:
- If you see flames or even just smoke, call for help to raise the alarm;
- Find a safe escape route, protecting your nose and mouth with handkerchiefs or other, if possible wet, clothing;
- Once out of the building on fire, do not go back inside under any circumstances;
- If you are in a multi-story building, and the fire has started on the lower floors, go up and try to reach an open space. Signal for help while waiting for rescuers to arrive;
- Before opening any door, check with the back of your hand whether it is hot: if so, do not open it (the heat indicates that the fire is nearby); if it is cold, open it slowly to check whether smoke has already filled the room (in this case, close the door immediately);
- Do not use the elevator under any circumstances;
- If you have to walk through an area already filled with smoke, try to duck and, if possible, wet your clothes and cover your nose and mouth with wet handkerchiefs;
- Never use water to extinguish fire near live machinery or elements.
